As a 10th-grade student, doing an internship at Redwood Edutours was <\/span>a completely new experience for me. Redwood Edutours is a company that <\/span>designs educational and experiential travel programs for students <\/span>combining travel with real-world learning.<\/span><\/p>

Before starting the internship, I thought travel planning was mostly about <\/span>booking hotels and transportation. However, during the internship, I <\/span>understood that creating educational tours involves much more research, <\/span>planning, communication, creativity and teamwork. This internship gave me <\/span>my first real exposure to how companies work and helped me learn skills <\/span>that are difficult to learn only in a classroom.<\/span><\/p>

One of the biggest challenges I faced was understanding how detailed <\/span>itinerary planning actually is. Every activity in a tour has to make sense in <\/span>terms of timing, learning values, safety, budget and the interests of different <\/span>age categories. Initially, I also struggled with professional communication <\/span>and organizing information properly. Since I was new to this environment, <\/span>at times I found it difficult to understand expectations quickly or think from <\/span>the perspective of students.<\/span><\/p>

Another challenge was balancing creativity with practicality. Some ideas <\/span>sounded exciting, but they were not always realistic when considering <\/span>travel time, costs, weather conditions, or student safety.<\/span><\/p>

A major part of my learning came from understanding how real educational <\/span>travel experiences are designed. I learnt that itineraries are not simply lists <\/span>of places to visit. They are carefully planned experiences that combine <\/span>education, exploration, and engagement. For example, a trip could include <\/span>historical learning, sustainability activities, local cultural experiences, <\/span>adventure activities, or teamwork exercises. While working on my ideas I <\/span>understood how companies have to think ahead about possible issues, <\/span>student behavior, group dynamics, schedules, and logistics. This taught me <\/span>to think more practically and pay attention to details. Also, I also learnt how <\/span>important communication is and how important it is to take ownership of <\/span>tasks and manage your time better working as an intern and juggling <\/span>between studies and sports. <\/span>During the internship, I made mistakes like overlooking small details, <\/span>underestimating the time required for activities, or creating plans that were <\/span>too prompt. However, these mistakes became some of the biggest learning <\/span>opportunities for me. I realized that professional work is not about being <\/span>perfect immediately. It is about improving continuously, accepting feedback, <\/span>and learning how to adapt. I also understood the importance of double <\/span>checking information carefully and thinking from multiple perspectives <\/span>before making decisions.<\/span><\/p>

One of the most valuable parts of the internship was observing how <\/span>teamwork happens inside a company. Each of us contributed to different <\/span>ideas. I learnt that successful projects depend on communication, <\/span>coordination, and respecting each other\u2019s role. Discussions, feedback <\/span>sessions and idea sharing helped improve the quality of work. This <\/span>experience taught me that teamwork is not only about dividing tasks, it is <\/span>also about listening, adapting, and working toward a common goal.<\/span><\/p>

    One interesting thing I learned was how much effort is involved in designing <\/span>travel experiences. Different people enjoy different types of activities. Some <\/span>students may enjoy adventure while others prefer cultural or educational <\/span>experiences. Planning tours requires understanding what keeps people <\/span>engaged, comfortable, curious, and excited. I realized that good <\/span>experiences are designed by understanding human emotions, interests, <\/span>and behavior. This helped me become more observant and thoughtful while <\/span>planning ideas. This internship showed me how hands-on learning can <\/span>have a real impact on students. Educational tours help students learn <\/span>outside textbooks through direct experiences, interactions, and practical <\/span>Exposure.<\/span><\/p>

    Most importantly, this internship made me realize that learning can happen <\/span>everywhere \u2014 not only in schools. Since this was my first experience in a <\/span>professional environment, it also helped me become more mature in the <\/span>way I think and communicate. Schools teach theories and concepts, but <\/span>internships and experiential learning help us understand how those <\/span>concepts are actually used in real life. I now understand why experiential <\/span>education is becoming increasingly important in today\u2019s world.<\/span><\/p>

    My internship at Redwood Edutours\ufffc was an enriching experience. It <\/span>helped me understand the amount of creativity, planning, teamwork, and<\/span>responsibility involved in designing meaningful educational travel <\/span>experiences. More than just learning about the travel industry, I have learnt <\/span>important life skills such as communication, adaptability, critical thinking, <\/span>and collaboration. I would like to thank my mentor who constantly guided <\/span>me throughout the internship.<\/span><\/p>
